A Newcastle girl was among the members of a winning team that competed in a national festival this summer. Del Oro High School sophomore Kasey Odell, 15, was part of the Sierra Pacific Region Show Jumping Team that brought home blue ribbons after competing in the United States Pony Club Festival in July. The festival takes place every three years at the Kentucky Horse Park. The Sierra Pacific team earned a blue ribbon in the horse management category. The team received the award after demonstrating camaraderie and teamwork in managing tack, apparel and overall care of the horse, along with having the fewest penalty points. Sierra Pacific had zero penalty points. Overall, the team placed seventh out of 19, after one of their horses fell ill during the competition. Kasey placed third out of 72 riders for her equitation, balance, pace and overall flow with her horse. Other show jumping team members included Kayla Ramsdell, captain, of Acampo; Veronica Lee Tippie, of Acampo; and Rachel Ravera, stable manager, of Roseville.
