Del Oro High School seniors Ethan Glover and Collin Johnston were selected as delegates to the American Legion 2010 California Boys State. The session was held at Sacramento State University at the end of June. Each year, outstanding junior boys attend the one-week session to learn about government from the local to the state level. Ethan is on the school’s varsity volleyball team, and is part of the Outdoor Adventure Club, Chess Club and California Scholarship Federation. He has also received the Eagle Scout from Troop 13 of Newcastle. Ethan has been accepted, and will attend, the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs next fall. “I want to pursue a degree in either mechanical engineering or aeronautical engineering. When I graduate, I hope to become a pilot,” Ethan said. Collin has performed community service at the Del Oro pool, where he spends a great deal of time. He has been involved in water polo for four years, was team captain, most valuable player, and first team all-league. He has also been on the swim team for years, and was chosen All-American in both water polo and swimming. He also takes academic enrichment classes at Sierra College. “It was an honor and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be chosen to go to Boys State and I am very grateful to Post 775 of the American Legion that I got to go because it was such a great experience,” Collin said. Selection of delegates for the 2011 session, to be held again at Sacramento State University, will be announced by April 15.
