Lady Eagles spike way to semi-finals

Del Oro High’s girls volleyball team turned back Ponderosa 3-1 last Thursday night to advance to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Div. II semi-finals. After taking a 2-0 lead with wins in the first two games, Del Oro was sent reeling when Ponderosa put the Lady Eagles on their heels by taking a 25-23 win in game three. Del Oro then regrouped and decided the match by taking game four in impressive fashion. Stephanie Solich led Del Oro with 14 kills, while Morgan Lees was right behind her teammate, with 12 kills. Del Oro sophomore Amy Heyn led with 38 assists. Senior libero Megan Hentschke also played a good all-around match in the win. The Ponderosa win vaulted Del Oro into Tuesday night’s semi-final round that sent the Lady Eagles to No. 1 seed El Camino. In their opening round match, the Lady Eagles tamed Folsom’s Bulldogs, 25-16, 25-13, 25-23 win. Morgan Lees had 14 kills and 12 digs to pace the Eagles (19-10). Stephanie Solich added 12 kills and three aces, while Tatum Jungsten had seven kills, 12 points served and two blocks. Megan Hentschke was perfect on 22 passes and added 21 digs from the back row. Amy Heyn dished out 33 assists and was 15-for-15 serving with 10 points. The CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Div. II championship match is set for 8 p.m. Thursday at UC Davis. Del Oro clipped 5-4 in tennis finals Del Oro’s girls tennis team had their fine season come to a close last Friday in a tough 5-4 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Div. II championship match loss to Granite Bay. The Lady Eagles had advanced to the finals via a 6-3 road win on Wednesday at Mira Loma. Abby Bacharach rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles to lead Del Oro. Erin Becker rallied for a 7-6 (6), 2-6, 6-4 victory at No. 2 and Leilani Dickson posted a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 4. Ashley Brening won a showdown at No. 6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. In doubles play, Camilla Ahlquist and Sarah Silva took a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2.
