EAGLE VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS CHICO, 3-0 Kyle Russell registered 13 kills and Brady Cord added nine as the Del Oro High boys volleyball team went on the road last Friday and posted a 3-0 non-league sweep over Chico. The Golden Eagles, now 8-3 overall on the season, defeated the host Panthers 25-22, 25-18 and 25-18. Also aiding in the win were Jordan Broyles and Clay Cosbie, who each added six kills, and setter Aaron Miller, who was credited with 30 assists. Del Oro also posted a 3-0 win over El Dorado last week with Russell netting nine kills and Cord eight in the 25-12, 25-19, 25-9 victory. Del Oro hosts Nevada Union at 6 p.m. this evening in a Sierra Foothill League match. On Tuesday, the Golden Eagles play at Granite Bay. BASEBALL DROPS PAIR After a week layoff because of wet weather, the Del Oro baseball team got back on the diamond but came up on the short end of two non-league games. On March 22 in a non-league game at Elk Grove, the Golden Eagles dropped a tough 3-2 contest to Franklin. Del Oro took a 2-1 lead into the sixth inning but surrendered a pair of runs, which were the difference in the game. For the Golden Eagles, both Max Magleby and Jesse Lang collected RBI hits while Ryan Xepoleas, Danny Seaman and Russell Smith also hit safely. Xepoleas, Tommy Mullen, Alex Mason and Gareth Lee combined efforts on the mound for DO and ended up scattering six hits. On Monday, Del Oro dropped an 8-3 game to Oak Ridge. Lang went 2x3 with a double, while Josh Akin and Xepoleas both contributed RBI base raps. Del Oro will open Sierra Foothill League action on Monday when it plays host to Rocklin at 4 p.m. SOCCER FALLS, 1-0 Del Oro’s girls soccer team dropped a 1-0 match to visiting Rocklin to open Sierra Foothill League play last Friday night under the lights in Eagle Stadium. Del Oro will play at Granite Bay at 3:30 p.m. Friday, and then travel to Roseville next Wednesday, April 6, for a 7 p.m. match under the lights. ~ Staff report
