BACHARACH GRABS SFL TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP Del Oro High freshman Abby Bacharach capped a remarkable Sierra Foothill League tennis season last Thursday at Rocklin High with a league singles championship. Bacharach fought off Roseville’s Ada Ukeagbo for a 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) in the title match. In the quarterfinals, Bacharach stormed back for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Maddie Quinell before cruising past Rocklin’s Stephanie Studen 6-0, 6-2 in the semifinals. Bacharach’s senior sister, Bryn, made the semifinals before falling to Ukeagbo. Bryn teamed up with senior Erin Becker in doubles and the pair made the finals. Granite Bay’s Lily and Chloe Forlini prevailed to win the doubles title, 6-4, 6-1. Becker and Bryn Bacharach earned a trip to the Sac-Joaquin Section doubles championships next Thursday at Johnson Ranch Racquet Club. Abby Bacharach will play in the singles championships. WATER POLO TEAM OPENS SECTION PLAYOFFS The Del Oro High girls water polo team will open the California Interscholastic Federation Sac-Joaquin Section Div. II playoffs Saturday. The Golden Eagles will meet Sonora at Woodcreek High starting at 5:45 p.m. The Del Oro boys team was also slated to meet Bear River this week to determine the Sierra Foothill League’s No. 3 team to the playoffs. The winner of that match will meet McClatchy Friday at 10:30 a.m. also at Woodcreek. In recent girls action, Del Oro registered a 15-7 win over Nevada Union last Tuesday in Loomis. Senior Megan Craig fired in six goals and junior Courtney Weddle added four as the Golden Eagles improved to 10-1 in the SFL – tied with Granite Bay for first place. Hannah Phippen and Sarah Mekebri scored two goals apiece. Katelyn Thompson had seven saves in goal, while Sam Todhunter had five. LADY EAGLES VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO GRANITE BAY The Del Oro High volleyball team lost a five-game thriller to Granite Bay Tuesday in Loomis, falling to 5-4 in Sierra Foothill League play. The Golden Eagles lost 21-25, 29-27, 16-25, 25-15, 15-13 despite 23 kills, 16 digs and four aces from senior Belle Obert. Vicki Warner had a big night with 15 digs and a 15-for-16 effort from the service line. Aly Duffin had 11 kills, 12 digs and two blocks while Tatum Jungsten pounded seven kills. Senior Bailey Humes dished out 46 assists to go with 10 digs and three aces. Del Oro’s junior varsity team lost to Granite Bay in three games. The Del Oro freshmen fell to Granite Bay in two.
