Del Oro spikers open SFL play

In a tune-up for the start of Sierra Foothill league action, the Del Oro Lady Eagles fell to the defending Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV champion Vista del Lago in four games last Thursday night. Now, 11-7 overall on the season, the Lady Eagles were clipped 25-21, 25-29, 22-25, 25-18. Senior Tatum Jungsten had a strong match for the Loomis spikers, as she recorded seven kills, served 14-for-16 and had two aces. Brianna Ruiz also stood out as she nailed nine kills. Also having good matches were Morgan Lees, who served 16-for-17 and checked in with 17 assists, and Megan Hentschke, who hustled for 24 digs. Stephanie Solich also added nine kills. In JV action, Del Oro lost to Vista Del Lago 21-25, 25-18, 15-12. The Del Oro frosh won 15-16, 25-19. In an earlier match, Del Oro’s varsity followed a nice effort from junior Bailey Harrison to help the Lady Eagles down Bella Vista, 3-1. Harrison served up 10 straight points to give Del Oro a 23-14 in the decisive fourth game lead to all but put the lid down on the win. Morgan Lees also served well, scoring 12 points with seven aces. Tatum Jungsten sparked the offense with 12 kills, while Megan Hentschke led the way in serve receiving. Del Oro’s JV and frosh teams both swept Bella Vista. Del Oro, which opened SFL play Tuesday at Rocklin, stays on the road today for a Thursday match at Nevada Union. The Lady Eagles return home on Tuesday, Oct. 4, to host Granite Bay before entertaining Roseville next Thursday, Oct. 6. ~ Staff report
