Del Oro soccer fights off Oakmont

Junior midfielder Kellen Crow and sophomore forward Danny Silva each scored for the Del Oro High boys soccer team on Thursday in its 2-1 win over visiting Oakmont. The left-footed Silva scored what proved to be the game-winner 20 minutes into the second half, using his right foot to send the ball into the far side of the net to put the Golden Eagles up 2-0. Senior Alec Lyons played solidly in goal for the Eagles (6-6-2, 4-3-1 Sierra Foothill League). Del Oro coach Dave Shiro also praised his back row, which consisted of senior Andrew Messamore and junior Cole Risse on the outside and sophomore twins Grant and Kyle Benedict in the middle. Del Oro’s junior varsity team lost 1-0. Forest Lake Christian 1, Vacaville Christian 1 at Lake of the Pines — Senior goalkeeper Aaron Andersson stopped a penalty kick with one minute remaining to preserve the tie for the Falcons (3-7-4, 2-2-2 Central Valley Christian League). Junior Andrew Baker scored off a cross in the 27th minute off a cross from fellow forward Michael Sparling. Vacaville Christian scored its goal eight minutes into the second half. FLC coach Thad Kopec praised senior midfielder Zach Ponce and junior defender Garrett Koch for their play on defense. Junior forward Randy Van Winkle had some scoring opportunities but was unable to convert.
