By: Journal Sports Staff
Del Oro High senior volleyball player Belle Obert has been named by MaxPreps.com as the National Volleyball Player of the Week. The editorial staff from MaxPreps, a nationally recognized source for high school sports, took notice of Obert at the Dixon Lady Rams Classic tournament in Dixon last Saturday. She led the Golden Eagles to a championship victory over Bear River. Obert had 45 kills over the course of seven matches in which Del Oro did not lose a single game. Earlier this year, Obert was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American watch list for 2010-11. As a junior she led the team with 272 kills, was second in digs at 249, and made the All-Sierra Foothill League first team. Obert leads this year’s team with 173 kills, 81 digs, and 91 serve receives. Just before the tournament in Dixon, Obert had19 kills in a 3-1 win over Colfax. At 6-1, she is a three-sport athlete, competing in volleyball, basketball, and the high-jump for track and field. She was third in scoring and assists on the basketball team last season. She also had 130 blocks to lead the team. When it comes to volleyball, coach Stu Kageta said Obert is the best player he’s coached in his nearly 20 years of coaching. Behind Obert’s dominating performances, Del Oro is now 18-1 on the year and has only lost four games out of its 19 matches. Obert currently has a verbal commitment to play volleyball for Butler University in 2011.
