Del Oro’s JV boys basketball team opened the JV Kendall Arnett Tournament on Monday, Dec. 29, with a 67-52 win over Del Campo. The game was tight through three quarters as the Cougars held a 26-20 lead at intermission and were down just eight points with a little over a minute to play. However, the Golden Eagles were able to keep care of the ball in the late going and converted some key free tosses to slam the door late on any Del Campo comeback tries. Del Oro outscored the Cougars 21-12 in a decisive third quarter with freshmen Taylor Bergthold and Jordan Broyles teaming with sophomore pivot Kyle Russell to lead the Golden Eagles rally. Bergthold sparked Del Oro with 21 points while Russell chipped in with 15 and Broyles added 12. David Saghately’s 21 points and 12 from Chris Burnett led Del Campo. Del Oro, 9-1, was slated to meet Colfax in a semi-final game on Tuesday. Del Oro will also play at Lincoln Friday night at 6 p.m.
