Meghan Baird tossed in 16 points and A.J. Baylon added 15 to help power the Del Oro JV girls basketball team past Pleasant Valley of Chico, 52-35, Saturday in the championship game of Del Oro’s Lady Eagle Invitational JV tournament.

Del Oro came out firing on all cylinders in the title bout as they shot out to a 40-12 lead by the halftime break and cruised the rest of the way.

“The girls came out and played well in all three games of the tournament,” said Del Oro JV coach Clint Donaghue. “It was a good effort from everyone throughout the tournament.”

Following in the scoring column for the Lady Eagles in the win over PV were Chrissie Sohn, Cassidy Crise, Kendra Chaffee and Mickayla Balser, all with four points each.

Bair was named as the tournament’s MVP and was joined on the all-tourney squad by Chaffee and Ellen Runte.

In the preliminary rounds, Del Oro opened with a 58-28 rout of Placer as Baird tallied 15 points, Balser added 11 and Runte chipped in with eight. On Friday in the semi-finals, the Lady Eagles had no problem in running past Colfax, 57-11.

Earlier, the Lady Eagles posted some impressive wins over top flight competition. On Tuesday, in a 64-50 win over Clovis West, Baylon sank 16 points, Baird tallied 12 and Runte added 10 to help spur the way past the perennial Central Section power program.

The Del Oro girls also fared well in winning the Kennedy tournament as they posted wins over St. Francis and Kennedy before turning back St. Mary’s of Stockton, 68-51, in the championship game.

This Saturday the Del Oro JVs will play at home against Kennedy at 1 p.m.
