Del Oro JV Boys Tighten Up SFL Race

54-51 Win Over Granite Bay Pushes Eagles to 16-2
A tight Sierra Foothill League JV boys basketball race is developing and after a pair of nail biting wins last week, the Del Oro JVs are right in the middle of the pennant chase. Del Oro improved to 16-2 overall on the season and 4-1 in SFL action last Thursday by coming from behind in the fourth quarter to notch a 54-51 win over previously undefeated Granite Bay. A pair of big three-pointers in the final stanza by Alex Lovgren and Jordan Broyles and two clutch free tosses by Sawyer Sewell with 17 seconds to play lifted Del Oro past the Grizzlies. “Our defense in the second half really made the difference<’ said Del Oro coach Gregg Pistochini. “The kids really were working hard.” Broyles and Kyle Russell both finished with 13 points for the winners while Sewell chipped in with 11. Earlier in the week, the Golden Eagles survived an upset scare at Nevada Union has after building a 15-point cushion in the first half, the Black and Gold held on for a 57-54 win. “Nevada Union got hot and hit a bunch of threes to get back in the game,” said Pistochini. “We tried to give it away at the end but we were fortunate to get the win.” Russell’s 16 markers, 12 each from Broyles and Sewell and 11 from Alan Kidwell sparked the Golden Eagles. Quincy Shelby also added six more points in the win. Del Oro at 4-1 wentr into this week tied with Granite Bay and Woodcreek for the top spot in the SFL JV race. The Golden Eagles will open the second half of league play next Wednesday by hosting Woodcreek at 6 p.m.
