Del Oro JV boys finish week 2-1

Tuning up for the start of Sierra Foothill League play, Del Oro’s JV boys basketball squad went 2-1 last week in a stretch of three tough games. Now 14-2 on the season, Del Oro opened last week with an 81-53 victory over a run and gun Lincoln Zebras squad. The Golden Eagles proved to be more than up to the task of the up-tempo Zebras as they ran out to a 55-20 lead by halftime. Trevor Pistochini scored 15 points, all in the first half, to pace the win. Both Kyle Setterlund and Cody Kenny added 12 points each to the winners’ offense. On Friday, in a rematch of last month’s finals of the Del Oro JV Tournament, the Golden Eagles once again proved to be a bit tougher than Folsom as the locals once again topped the Bull-dogs, 60-46. Ironically, the final score was the same exact tally as Del Oro’s tournament win over Folsom. Pistochini had a big game for the Golden Eagles as he popped in 28 points, which included six treys. Setterlund and Colin Mitchell both followed with eight points apiece. Finally, on Saturday, in a match-up of two of the area’s top JV squads, Oak Ridge did a good job of controlling the boards and keeping the Eagles in check on defense and escaped with a 54-51 win. Aaron Freeman led Del Oro’s bid with 12 points. Kenny and Pistochini followed him with 11 points apiece. Del Oro opens SFL play today with a 5:30 p.m. game at Rocklin. ~ Staff report
