The Del Oro High football team is still on the field in late November, restoring order in Loomis. The Golden Eagles missed the playoffs in 2008 for the first time in eight seasons after an uncharacteristic 4-6 finish. This year, Del Oro (8-2) earned an at-large invitation to the playoffs, landing the No. 8 seed in the Sac-Joaquin Section’s newly formatted Division II bracket. The Eagles will host ninth-seeded Christian Brothers (7-3). The Falcons took second place in the Sierra Valley Conference, finishing 4-2. Their league losses to Union Mine and Oak Ridge were by a combined six points. Christian Brothers features a diverse offense led by senior quarterback Michael Lahey. He averages 121 yards per game through the air and rushes for another 40 each game. Running backs Julian Winters and Corey Crowder are both dangerous. Winters is small and quick while Crowder is a 205-pound bruiser. Del Oro pulled out of a two-game losing skid with a 56-8 romp in its Sierra Foothill League finale last week. Senior tailback Bryce Pratt made it 30 touchdowns on the year to go with 1,719 yards on the ground. Junior Max Magleby has quietly been outstanding for the Eagles. He’s completed 67 percent of his passes for 1,536 yards and 17 touchdowns. Magleby’s thrown just four interceptions.
