Ann Stockwell, a junior gymnast who attends Del Oro High School, became the Level 10 California Champion for her age group on bars Saturday after placing first at the NorCal State Championships in Livermore.

Stockwell earned a 9.650 on vault, 9.375 on bars, 9.100 on beam and 9.425 on floor, amassing an all-around score of 37.550. Her score she was second out of 15 gymnasts in her age group.

Stockwell surpassed the all-around score of 34.0 required to qualify for the Regional Championship meet, which will be her next competition. Regionals are set for the weekend of April 13 in Phoenix.

Stockwell expects that, if she performs there as well as she has all season, she will then go on to the National Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., on the weekend of May 10.

Stockwell has earned high scores all season, starting with an all-around score of 35.650 at her first full meet. Since then, Stockwell’s scores have risen consistently, and she has repeatedly broken her own personal-best records.

During Stockwell’s meet season this spring, she easily qualified for the NorCal State Championship meet by earning high scores at her invitational meets.

At the state meet this past weekend, not only was her all-around score a new high for her, but she also earned a score higher than 9.0 in every event.

Stockwell of Miyagi Gymnastics Academy in Auburn credits her high scores in part to her gymnastics coaches, Miyagi and his daughter, Monica.

Stockwell has already been approached by several college scouts who are asking her to consider attending their college while competing on their team.

She could receive more attention from college scouts in the weeks to come if she advances to nationals.
