Del Oro girls post quality win

-A +A
The Del Oro Lady Eagles made short work of a pair of Sierra Foothill League foes last week and then for good measure did the same to a quality non-league foe Saturday afternoon. Leading off the week with a 64-20 league romp of Granite Bay and a 66-24 paddling of Roseville, the Lady Eagles met unbeaten Lincoln of Stockton in an inter-sectional match up of girls hoop powers. Lincoln, a Div. I opponent, came to Loomis with a perfect 16-0 record but the Lady Eagles never let the visiting Trojans get untracked offensively and ultimately pulled away for an impressive 51-38 win. Del Oro jumped out to a 9-2 lead and after a big 18-6 second quarter stretched its advantage to 27-9 at halftime. Lincoln then outscored the Lady Eagles, 16-9, in the third stanza but the contest was put away in the fourth when Del Oro kept the Trojans in check the rest of the way. Sophomore Brianna Ruiz led the offense for the winners with 14 points while Belle Obert sank nine, Stephanie Geyer contributed seven, Taylor Donnot and Becky Duncan followed with six points apiece and Madeline Campbell added five. On Friday, Del Oro’s 66-24 conquest of Roseville had Campbell bagging four treys on her way to scoring a game-high 21 points. Obert was next in the points column with 15 markers while Ruiz had a good all-around game with 10 points and six rebounds. Del Oro’s other SFL win came at the expense of the Grizzlies from Granite Bay. Obert led the way in this win as she pushed through 15 points and snared nine rebounds. Also having a hand in the win for the Lady Eagles were Campbell with seven points, Taylor Donnot and Katie Fernandez with five points each and Paige McKim and Geyer with four points apiece. Donnot also grabbed seven rebounds. Del Oro, 15-3 overall and 3-0 in the SFL,, will face perhaps its most difficult league road test of the season Friday when it plays at Nevada Union (12-9, 2-1) in Grass Valley starting at 7 p.m. The Lady Eagles then move to the Thursday-Tuesday slate for the remainder of their league schedule when they play at Rocklin on Thursday, Feb. 3. On Saturday, Feb. 5, the Lady Eagles will host Kennedy of Sacramento in a non-league tripleheader with games at 2 p.m., 3:30 and 5 p.m. ~ Staff report
