Junior guard Madeline Campbell scored a game-high 25 points Thursday night, leading the Del Oro High girls basketball team to its second win over Placer in three days. This time, Del Oro won on its home court, beating the Hillgals 51-45 in their opening game of the Golden Eagle Invitational. Junior forwards Crystal Sewell and Belle Obert netted 13 and 11 points, respectively, for the unbeaten Golden Eagles (6-0), who led 31-28 at halftime and 40-33 entering the fourth quarter. The Hillgals (3-6) were hindered by struggles at the free-throw line, where they shot 9-for-21. Senior guards Kelsey Lardner and Kayla Reeves led Placer in scoring with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Senior forward Melissa Manning had six points to go with her team-high seven rebounds. In other Golden Eagle Invitational games: Colfax 37, Rio Americano 36 — Senior guard Cassandra Campbell’s free throw broke a tie with three seconds remaining to lift the Falcons (2-4). Senior Audrey Lewis led Colfax in scoring with 21 points, while fellow guards Kacey Capuchino and April Littlejohn added five apiece. Junior forward Michelle Walker grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Woodcreek 42, Bear River 40 — The Bruins (5-2) missed a free throw that would have tied the game at 41 with five seconds left, then couldn’t get a shot off after the Timberwolves made a foul shot at their end. Junior guard Lindsey Harder led Bear River with 15 points. Senior center Riley Pearson added 10 for the Bruins. All four teams will be back in action in the second round of the Lady Eagle Invitational today.
