Del Oro girls run to CIF Div. III crown The Del Oro girls cross country program turned last Saturday’s CIF Sac-Joaquin Div. III sub section into their own private party as three Lady Eagle teams came home with first place finishes. Running at Frogtown, near Angels Camp, the Del Oro varsity team followed Alexa Lua and Megan Gentes, who posted identical times of 19:56 to place seventh and eighth, respectively. Their finish allowed Del Oro to score 71 points and out-distance Oakmont (78), Vista del Lago (83) and Rio American (139) for top honors. Also faring well for Del Oro were Ashley Dessert, who was 17th in 20:26, Dominique Tristant, who placed 19th in 20:31 and Maddy Montgomery, who was 20th in 20:31. Del Oro’s JV girls placed one through five in their race to score the minimum 15 points and sweep their division. Lizzie Meredith was first and was followed in order by Erin Hood, Sydney Prioette, Miranda Marshall and Marisa Grattan. In the frosh-soph race, Aleena Gingerich placed second in 13:38 to help Del Oro win that race. Also placing were Jaclyn Leduc, who was seventh. She was joined by Deja Estrada, Victoria Orsi and Elaine Chappell to help with the title. Del Oro’s varsity boys followed a 5th place overall by Trevor Stephens (16:24), to place third as a team in Div. III. Sam Baker (21st), Austin Dawson (30th), Dustin Penn-Henry (43rd) and Spencer Stacy (59th) rounded out Del Oro’s top finishers. Del Oro’s JV boys were second, while the frosh-soph team placed third. The Golden Eagle runners now advance to the CIF Section meet Saturday at Willow Hills, in Folsom. ~ Staff report
