Del Oro frosh football maintains perfection on the road

El DORADO HILLS – The Del Oro freshman football team remained undefeated Thursday with a 28-8 win over Oak Ridge. Blake Stahl kicked off the game and the Trojans began their offense. On third down, the Trojan offense completed a 30-yard pass, beginning a drive that would take the Trojans all the way to the Del Oro 18-yard line. On a Trojan screen pass Del Oro's defensive end Brandon Snow tackled the Trojan running back in the backfield for a seven-yard loss and forced the Trojans to turn the ball over on downs. On the Golden Eagles first offensive play of the game quarterback Michael Moore handed off to running back Dylan Kainrath. With great blocking by fullback Cody Clayton, Kainrath ran up the middle for a touchdown. Brandon Lopez kicked the extra point. Del Oro put the first points on the scoreboard early and set the standard for the rest of the game. In the next series Johnathon Tuttle blocked a pass and the Del Oro defense denied the Trojans a first down forcing the team to punt. On the ensuing possession, the Golden Eagle offense also went three-and-out. With the Trojans facing a third and 10 defensive end Jonah Mekebri sacked the quarterback for a loss, forcing the Trojans to punt once again. Del Oro would not be denied again, and on third and 10 quarterback Michael Moore connected with Danny Becker on a 15-yard pass and Becker neatly scored. Brandon Lopez kicked the extra point bringing the score to 14-0 Del Oro. Oakridge took over on offense and on third down Michael Moore had a near pick on a 30-yard pass forcing the Trojans to punt on fourth down. The Golden Eagles were forced to take over on its own 1-yard line. On third down, from the 10-yard line Michael Moore made a 30-yard pass to Becker who completed the conversion for a 90-yard touchdown. The extra point by Brandon Lopez brought the score to 21-0 Del Oro. Oak Ridge took over on offense. On third down Del Oro linebacker Jahaan Nargussi intercepted the Trojan’s pass on their 20-yard line and ran it back to the 15-yard line to end the half. The Trojans started the second half with a successful onside kick. On third down Del Oro nose guard Tanner Woods trucked the Trojan’s quarterback, resulting in an incomplete pass. Oak Ridge attempted another screen pass on their fourth down, which resulted in a fumble that was picked up by Del Oro nose guard Jacob Noah. With the Golden Eagle offense back in control at its own 35-yard line, Moore completed a 30-yard pass to Becker who broke a shoestring tackle to score. Brandon Lopez kicked the extra point and Del Oro widened the lead to 28-0. The Trojans took over the ball and defensive end Ryan Ubry sacked the quarterback for a 12-yard loss heading into the 4th quarter of the game. The Trojans attempted a 37-yard field goal to put some points on the board, but the ball went slightly right and missed the uprights. Del Oro took over on the 20-yard line. Backup quarterback Alec Moen handed off to tailback James Corbett for a 15-yard gain. The Trojans once again gained control of the ball on their own 40-yard line. Penalties and runs got them to Del Oro’s 38-yard line when a 36-yard pass ended in a bobbled completion on the Golden Eagles 2-yard line. The Del Oro defense stopped the first run attempt but a quarterback keeper on second down put the Trojans on the board. A successful two-point conversion brought the score to 28-8. In the final plays of the game Jonah Mekebri sacked the Trojan quarterback for a 15-yard loss and Travis Newman intercepted a Trojan pass on the last play of the game. The undefeated Del Oro freshmen take on Oakmont on Thursday, Sept. 23, at 5:30 p.m. at Del Oro.
