LOOMIS –A Golden Eagle interception in the first quarter set the tone as the team handed the Vikings a decisive 40-12 non-league loss at the Del Oro. Early in the first quarter Del Oro received the ball on the 25-yard line. Dylan Kainrath ran for a 13-yard gain, setting up a 10-yard pass by quarterback Michael Moore to Cody Clayton who ran 60-yards after the catch with blocks by Tyler Meteer and Danny Becker. The PAT was blocked. The Vikings were unable to get their offense started and had to punt. A fumbled snap on the Oakmont punt almost resulted in a block by Jacob Noah but Oakmont was able to get the punt off. Danny Becker received the punt on the Del Oro 45-yard line and returned the ball up the middle, with blocking by Brandon Johnson, for another early Del Oro touchdown. The Eagles were denied the two-point conversion on the PAT. When the defense took the field Moore’s experience as a quarterback enabled him to read the Oakmont quarterback’s pass as he moved up field just in time to intercept a 10-yard pass to the sideline and run back 50 yards for Del Oro touchdown. This time Del Oro’s Brandon Lopez scored the point after, bringing the score at the end of the first quarter to 19-0. The second quarter proved no less difficult for the Golden Eagles as Brandon Johnson provided a great block for Meteer on a trap play. A quick pass to Cody Clayton set Moore up for a 20-yard pass to Becker in the end zone. Despite double coverage on Becker, he made a spectacular catch on the end zone sideline, which drew cheers from the home stands. A completed pass and short run by Dylan Lee led to an 8-yard pass to Meteer. He broke three tackles and was brought down on the Oakmont 25-yard line after a 15-yard run. The following play was a wide-open pass to Meteer and a run into the end zone. The score at the end of the half was 33-0. The Golden Eagles started the second half strong as Moored handed the ball off to Dylan Kainrath. Kainrath broke three tackles for a 30-yard run to the 10-yard line. Another hand off to Kainrath put him into the end zone on a short run, bringing the score to 40-0 at the half. Oakmont was able to gain yardage throughout the game, but a 15-yard pass into the end zone put them on the scoreboard. They missed their extra point and the score at the end of the third quarter was 40-6. The Del Oro offense struggled in the fourth quarter but the defense shined with an interception by Austyn Heatherly on the Del Oro 10-yard line, preventing a Viking touchdown. The Eagles offense turned the ball over to the Vikings on a punt. Oakmont was able to score again on a 12-yard pass. The Vikings were denied PAT points on a penalty call. The final score of the game was Del Oro 40, Oakmont 12. The Del Oro Frosh Football Team takes on American Canyon on Thursday, Sept. 30, at 5:30 p.m. at the Del Oro High Stadium.
