Del Oro defends home turf

LOOMIS — The Del Oro High girls put on a show at their own track and field meet Friday afternoon. Caitlin Devitt-Payne, Brie Simmons and Emma Freeman led the charge as the Golden Eagles dominated the girls side of the Del Oro Invitational. Devitt-Payne cruised to victory in the 1,500 meters in 4 minutes, 52.6 seconds, leading a Del Oro sweep in the event. Jessie Rozario was second and Freeman was third for the Eagles. Simmons scored big points in the hurdles, winning the 100 in 15.14. The Eagles junior took second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 45.82. Casey Bell joined Devitt-Payne, Simmons and Rozario on the winning 4x400 relay team, which clocked a 4:03.73. Freeman raced to victory in the 3,000 with a time of 11:10.24 while Del Oro’s Alex Lua was third and Placer’s Kailee Warren took fourth. Freeman added a fourth place finish in the 800 with a 2:27.20 while Placer’s Hannah Peterson (2:27.23) was fifth. Karissa Willis tossed the shot put 35 feet, 1 inch to take first place for the Eagles. Danielle Fitts (30-4.5) placed fifth for the Hillgals. In the pole vault, Del Oro’s Vicky Warner cleared 11-6 to win. Second place was a tie between Placer’s Shelby Crider and Del Oro’s Jennifer Maneatis, who both cleared 10-0. In the 200, Placer freshmen Micaylea Mitchell (27.22) and Meghan Tucker (27.27) were third and fourth respectively. . Kimberly Hibbert (91-02) took fourth in the discus and Willis was sixth for the Eagles. Marilyn Johnson leaped 4-10 to take third in the high jump for the Hillgals. Tucker (15-4.5) took fourth in the long jump. The Del Oro boys won a showdown with Placer in the final event of the day – the 4x400 relay. Golden Eagles Kenneth Andri, Blake Covey, Casey Wheeler and Kai VonAlvenslaben raced to a 3:24.62 to hold off Placer, which ran 3:28.61. Jordan Ralls, Joe Mangino, Christian Perry and Darren Centi ran for the Hillmen. Colfax’s Michael Manning had a fine day in the pole vault, winning with a clearance of 14-6. Placer’s Kaj Niegmann cleared 13-0 to take fourth. Garrett Collins’ toss of 130-11 was good for fourth place in the discus while Placer’s Brandon Rinaldo (127-11) was fifth. Wheeler ran well in the hurdles, taking second in both the 300 (40.05) and the 110 (14.85). In a competitive 400, Covey (50.46) took third and Centi (51.15) raced to fifth. In the 100, Del Oro senior Angelo Pasquale (11.26) took third, while Cole Pendergrass (22.98) ran to third in the 200. Sam Baker (2:02.84) was third in the 800 for the Eagles. Trevor Stephens ran a strong 9:31.07 to place third in the 3,000. Baker was fourth in the 1,500 (4:18.26), just a head of Placer’s Isaac Tripp (4:19.40). Colfax’s Brennan Holman (41-8.5) placed third in the triple jump.
