Del Oro cruises past another challenger
The Del Oro High girls basketball team expected a tough challenge from a Division I power Saturday afternoon. They got another huge blowout, crushing Kennedy 65-26 in Loomis.
The Golden Eagles led 23-4 after one quarter and 44-10 by halftime as they improved to 19-3 on the season. Senior Madeline Campbell was presented with her McDonald’s All-American nominanion by former Eagles star Emilie Johnson before score 20 points.
Campbell also had eight rebounds and three steals. Belle Obert scored 10 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and swatted six shots. Crystal Sewell had 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals while Brianna Ruiz scored seven with six rebounds.
Johnson was in Loomis shortly after her UC Santa Barbara squad lost to UC Davis 74-70. Johnson scored 24 points in the loss while Placer graduate Kasey Riecks led the Aggies with 18.
Foresthill 46, Sacramento Waldorf 44 at Sacramento — The Wildfires fought past the Waves to set up a first-place showdown with Woodland Christian on Tuesday.
Sophomore Bella Engbretson scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and dished out four assists to spark Foresthill (7-2 Central Valley Christian League). Cherish Miles played well with 12 points and four steals while Trysta Ferguson added 11 points and two steals.
The Wildfires will host the Cardinals Tuesday.
