Del Oro cross country at state

Running against their strongest competition of the season, the Del Oro girls cross country team placed 12th out of 20 teams at last week’s CIF State Cross Country Championship meet held in Fresno.
Running in sun-kissed conditions, the Lady Eagles scored 274 points to just finish out of top ten range. La Canada of Flintridge was 11th with 266 points, while Canyon Crest Academy of San Diego was 10th with 256 points.
First-place finisher for Div III girls was Bonita of the Southern Section with 83 points. They easily outran second place Cathedral Catholic who mustered 143 points. Vista del Lago, which Del Oro defeated to win the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section crown, finished sixth with 222 points.
Del Oro’s top three finishers were Megan Gentes, a senior, who placed 24th in 19:01; junior Lizzie Meredith, who was 37th in 19:19; and senior Amy Heyn, who placed 51st in 19:35.
Rounding out Del Oro’s finishers were Maddy Lyons, a freshman, in 20:04; senior Dominique Tristant in 20:11; and juniors Maddy Montgomery in 20:18 and Libby Runte in 21:19.
Del Oro’s two boys competitors also fared well in their Div. III race. Trevor Stephens finished in 80th place out of 193 runners in a time of 16:46. Teammate Kyle Ebert placed 123rd in 17:08.
