4LO DO Cheer Staff Report Courtesy Photo Dedication to a sport is one thing, but being a team member on the Del Oro High School Cheer team is quite another. Like athletes on every sports team, Del Oro cheerleaders are dedicated to raising the level of their athletic ability. What makes these girls unique is a requirement for monthly community service in order to remain on the roster. This year the team plans to raise $5,000 to donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in a campaign called “Team Up for St. Jude.” To reach their goal, the girls completed a letter-writing campaign in June, collected spare change at Loomis’ Thursday Night FamilyFest, and will hold additional collections at Taylor’s Restaurant, in Loomis, throughout the summer. The cheer squad will represent one of five charities at Macy’s, Shop for a Cause event, on August 27, and will perform at the Sacramento River Cats game on August 30. “Due to the nature of our sport, our girls are often in the spotlight. Being able to put the spotlight on a cause so much greater than themselves often ends up being one of the highlights of their year,” said Coach Allie Hennessy. To purchase Macy’s event tickets, or tickets to the August 30th River Cats game, or to make a donation, contact Henness, at 541-5844, or Morgan Welch, at 307-2347. Proceeds benefit St. Jude Hospital.
