On Wednesday, the Del Oro High School boys wrestling team got off to a slow start.

The Golden Ealges, visiting Sierra Foothill League foe Woodcreek, lost three straight matches to begin the night starting at the 195-pound weight class.

“They were all close so we only gave up three points each time,” Del Oro coach Dave Sanchez said. “So after losing the first three, we were down 9-0.”

Then the comeback began.

Del Oro went on to win 10 of out of the next 11 matches and earn a 44-15 victory.

That loss lone came in the 126-pound class, where Ian Gassaway was pinned by Woodcreek's James Gomez, a returning state qualifier.

Clay Shropshire, Zach Ruybal and Dylan Kainrath earned pins for the Eagles.

The Eagles varsity 1 team returns to the mat Friday and Saturday for the Battle for the Border at Lassen High School in Susanville. The varsity 2 team is heading to the Mark Fuller Tournament at Lincoln High School on Saturday.
