After blowing out Casa Roble 77-8 the previous night in the first round of the Lady Eagle Invitational, Del Oro needed a seven-point fourth quarter performance from senior Natalie Sohn to defeat El Camino 54-47 on Friday night.

The win over the Eagles pits the Golden Eagles (8-2) in the title game against Bishop Manogue of Reno at 5:30 p.m. Saturday for the tournament title.

“I think we were really confident in the way we played,” Sohn said. “We passed the ball around, didn’t get down on each other and did a really good job on defense.”

Sohn finished with a game-high 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

After trailing 12-9 midway through the first quarter, senior Stephanie Geyer scored six of the next eight points for Del Oro as the Golden Eagles went on a 9-0 run to end the quarter.

Geyer finished with a double-double with 15 points and a team-high 10 rebounds and was the vocal leader before tip-off.

“It was nice before the game in the locker room,” Sohn said.

“Stephanie said, ‘This is our tournament,’ and that just pumped us up for the game and we went out there encouraging each other and just had a good time.”

After taking a 12-point lead in the third quarter, Del Oro’s lead diminished to four points in the fourth as Courtney Brignac drained two 3-pointers for El Camino (4-5) to bring the score to 44-40 with three minutes, 48 seconds to play in the game.

But Sohn, Mia Maglinte (13 points) and Libby Runte (6 points) nailed key free throws in the final minute to seal the game for the Golden Eagles and advancing to the tournament final on the home court.

“We are stoked,” Sohn said. “This is my last tournament here at Del Oro and we going to win first place, hopefully. We can’t wait.”
