Holding visiting Oak Ridge to single digit scoring over the first three quarters, Del Oro’s Lady Eagles used outstanding defense as their impetus in securing a 43-31 win over the visiting Trojans last Saturday afternoon. Taking on the reigning state Div. I champions who have not lost to a CIF Sac-Joaquin Section area team this season, Del Oro clamped down on the visitors by holding the Trojans to just 13 points through three quarters. Ahead 34-13 after three quarters, Del Oro coach Mike Takayama was able to clear his bench in notching the impressive win. Sophomore Briana Ruiz scored all 11 of her points in the first half and Belle Obert added 10 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks. Sophomore Stephanie Geyer scored eight more points while Taylor Donnot followed with six points and Becky Duncan added two. Del Oro (11-2) will host Rocklin on Friday at 7 p.m. to open the Sierra Foothill League season. On Monday the Lady Eagles will play in the Common Good Classic at Antelope High at 7:30 p.m. against state Div. I power Berkeley. ~ Staff report
