Déjà vu: Granite Bay beats Del Oro 5-4 again to grab SFL titleBy: Journal sports staff
Del Oro’s tennis team had a chance Tuesday to avenge a prior 5-4 loss to Granite Bay.
But the Eagles experienced a case of Déjà vu.
Granite Bay beat Del Oro 5-4 — again — to clinch the Sierra Foothill League title in Loomis.
“We thought we had a chance and we had a few matches that were really close and didn’t go our way,” said Del Oro coach Jill Tooker. “But we still get to go to playoffs. So we’re happy. Hopefully we’ll get a rematch in the playoffs.”
The Eagles (9-2, 7-2) got singles victories from No. 3 Max Hennessey (6-7, 6-1, 6-3) and No. 6 Mitch Pingree (7-6, 7-5). In doubles play, Del Oro received wins from teams of No. 1 Parker Jones and Will Lamoora (6-1, 6-2) and No. 3 Ben Walter and Joey Bollard (6-2, 6-2).
The Eagles play host to Roseville Thursday for senior day at 3:30 p.m. The individual playoffs get underway the following week.
