Cross Country Hosts DO 4000

Nearly 1,000 runners competed in the Del Oro 4000 under the lights at Eagle Stadium. Top teams from around Northern California participated in the Saturday night meet, including Bellarmine, from San Jose, and Jesuit, from Sacramento. Highlights included Woodcreek’s Jonathan Horvath running a 12:43 time to nip Del Oro’s Trevor Stephens (12:45) in the varsity boys race. Bellarmine won the varsity boys division by scoring 37 points. In the girls varsity race, Kylie Goo of Westmoor set the winning pace with a time of 14:46. Del Oro, however, won the team competition with Lizzie Meredith placing second, Megan Gentes, fifth and Amy Heyn, sixth. Del Oro’s JV boys were fourth while the frosh boys were third. In the girls division, both the Del Oro JV girls and frosh-soph teams grabbed first place finishes. Lady Eagle Netters Post SFL Wins Kylee Webb, Macey Bailey, Ashley Brenning, Belle Champlin and Tara McNabb all notched singles wins to help lead Del Oro’s girls tennis team to an 8-1 win over Woodcreek last Thursday. The Lady Eagles doubles squads of Gracie Berry and Elena Hansen (6-0, 6-1); Sarah Silva and Emily Friesen (6-2, 6-2); and Rachel Lewis and Jenna Vmerzel (6-4, 6-2) triumphed for Del Oro. In Tuesday’s action at Roseville, Del Oro received a bit stiffer test, but still pulled out a 6-3 win. The Lady Eagles (8-4, 4-2) earned singles victories from Abby Bacharach (6-0, 6-0); Emma Berry (7-5, 6-4); and Macey Bailey (6-1, 7-5). Scoring doubles victories were Gracie Berry and Elena Hansen (6-4, 7-6, 7-1); Belle Champlin and Jamie Forslin (6-1, 6-0); and Sarah Silva and Emily Frisen (2-6, 6-4, 10-3). Boys water polo takes pair After a pair of one-goal Sierra Foothill League losses to Bear River and Woodcreek, Del Oro’s boys water polo squad bounced back with wins last week over Nevada Union and Roseville. In an 8-6 decision over NU, Kennan Finney tallied four goals and Jake Triplett added two as the Golden Eagles rallied past the Miners for the victory. Del Oro then throttled Roseville, 14-8 last Thursday. Finney scored five goals for the winners, who led 8-5 at halftime. Also having a hand in the offense were Alex Henrikson with three goals. Scoring one goal each for Del Oro were Triplett, Thor Kampehfner, Daniel Hawley, Nick Clark and Matt Trefry. Tuesday, the Golden Eagles host Rocklin at 5:45 p.m. The JV boys match will follow at 6:45 p.m.
