Franklin Elementary School, the Placer County Sheriff’s Department, and Placer County Health and Human, Services and Substance Abuse Prevention will hold a community forum on the effects of drug use in the Loomis area at 6:30 p.m. today, Thursday, May 22, in the Franklin School gymnasium. Methamphetamine and other illegal drug use is a national concern. Do you know what these problems look like in our community? Anyone can be a drug user, including honor roll students, athletes, professionals, mothers and fathers. PURPOSE OF FORUM * Increase community awareness of drug abuse in Loomis and surrounding areas * Identify how drug related behaviors affect the community * Substance identification * User behaviors, signs, symptoms * Public Q&A * Where to get help WHO SHOULD ATTEND Parents, teachers, youth, and other community members. The program is appropriate for youth from fifth grade and older. FEATURED SPEAKERS Sheriff Ed Bonner will facilitate the forum. Speakers will include Christy Crandell, author of the book “Lost and Found”; Zach Poiesz, who will discuss drug identification, signs and symptoms of drug use; Leonard Brown, who will provide information on treatment, recovery, and hope; and a youth panelist.
