Hope Lutheran School Open House Week continues from 9:30 a.m. to noon, today and Friday, Oct. 28 and 29, at 7117 Hope Way in Penryn. It’s an opportunity to meet teachers and students and see the classrooms in action. Hope Lutheran School offers a Christ-centered education for students from kindergarten through eighth grade. No appointment necessary. For more information, call 652-0459. Ewing Irrigation Products is accepting donations for the Ewing Cares Food Drive, to benefit the Placer County Food Bank. Drop off food donations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, at 3265 Swetzer Road. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 31. For more information, call 652-9530. A book sale, sponsored by the Loomis Friends of the Library, will be held Oct. 28 and 29 at the Loomis Library. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. A community Pirate Fest will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Loomis Grammar School. Admission is free. Wristbands at $10 each allow unlimited visits to all booths and rides, as well as participation in a treasure hunt. Vendors will also have food and refreshments available. The 2nd annual Oktoberfest, presented by PEACE for families, runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at the Blue Goose Fruit Shed. Enjoy micro-brews, ciders and wines, and good things to eat from local restaurants. There will be live music, a silent auction and raffle prizes. Golden Eagle Baseball 2011 will hold walk-in registration from 6 to 8 p.m. at Loomis Pizza Factory on Tuesday, Nov. 9; Wednesday, Nov. 17; and Thursday, Dec. 9. The 16th annual Cowpoke Fall Gathering returns Nov. 11 to 14 to the Blue Goose Fruit Shed. Performing will be R.W. Tickets for Friday and Saturday evening’s poetry and music are $35 general admission or $45 for preferred seating. Saturday matinee tickets are $15 each. The free service is in conjunction with Greenspot Dropoff, which will recycle the e-waste. Loomis Self Storage is open for recycling from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
