Things to do, places to go in the Loomis Basin

Golden Eagle Baseball 2011 will hold walk-in registration from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at Loomis Pizza Factory. Youngsters ages 5 to 14 are eligible to participate. Fees range from $60 to $100, and there is an additional fee for late registration. For more information, call 458-1556. Ewing Irrigation Products is accepting donations for the Ewing Cares Food Drive, to benefit the Placer County Food Bank. Drop off food donations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, at 3265 Swetzer Road. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 31. For more information, call 652-9530. A large, multi-crafter Craft Boutique will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, in the Blue Goose Fruit Shed. Look for home décor, gifts, jewelry, candles, baked goods, kid gifts, purses, scarves, soaps, and Christmas items. It takes place rain or shine. Visit five homes during the Loomis Basin Holiday Home Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11. Tickets are $25 in advance, or $30 the day of the event. The self-guided tour is sponsored by the Loomis Basin Education Foundation to benefit students of the Loomis Basin Union School District. In Loomis, tickets are available at the Flower Farm, High Hand Nursery and Blue Goose Produce. Hope Lutheran Church hosts “Christmas For Kids” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at 7117 Hope Way in Penryn. Sierra Foothills Rugby Club will hold a free clinic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the LDS Park in Penryn. A season kick-off barbecue, which allows athletes to meet fellow teammates and the coaching staff, will follow from 1 to 3 p.m. Practices have begun, and games start in January. The 2nd Annual Walk Woof or Hoof It! 6k fun run/walk and 12k run begins at noon Sunday, Dec. 12, at Bakers Nursery and Foothill Feed on Taylor Road. Advance registration is $20 for adults or $10 for children; race-day fee is $25 and $12. There will be food and refreshments, as well as prizes and a raffle. Dogs are invited. Free lacrosse clinics, for boys in grades five through 12, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturdays, Dec. 11 and Jan. 15, at the LDS Recreation Park, 3211 Boulder Creek Place, in Penryn, at the I-80 exit. There will be skills demonstrations for new players and pre-season conditioning for returning players, followed by a fun, non-contact scrimmage. A concert series will be presented by the First United Methodist Church of Loomis, located at 6414 Brace Road. “Night of Father’s Love,” a Christmas cantata, will feature the church choir at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19. Coming up next year are “Jazz, Jazz, and More Jazz!,” “Show Tunes” by Capital Pops, a show by the Sacramento Men’s Gay Chorus, and an opera original composition by David Rudat. The series 5-pack is $50 per person, or $45 each for 2 or more people. Single tickets are $15 each, and children 12 and under admitted free of charge. Doors open at 6 p.m.; dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40 each, and the menu will include all-you-can eat crab, shrimp, chowder, bread and salad.
