Things to do, places to go in Loomis and Penryn

The community pool at Del Oro High School is open for swimming and lessons. For pool hours and lesson schedule, call Loomis Town Hall at 652-1840. Artisan Outdoors is a new Loomis business selling redwood lumber and fencing at 3250 Rippey Road, Suite C. They will hold a grand-opening celebration from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 9. It will include a barbecue, raffles and special pricing. For more information, call 652-9205. The band Pablo Cruise will perform at the Blue Goose Fruit Shed Friday and Saturday, July 9 or 10. Doors open at 6 p.m.; the show is at 8 p.m. General admission tickets are $40 each, or $65 for a VIP ticket that includes a backstage after-party, a dessert and coffee lounge and an event T-shirt. The Loomis Farmers' Market is open from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday at the Blue Goose Fruit Shed. A Chance for Bliss Animal Sanctuary will hold an open house and expo from 12 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at 1865 Willow Brook lane in Penryn. A Home Winemakers Competition will be held by the Placer County Wine & Grape Association at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at Geiger Woods, 3690 Auburn-Folsom Road. The competition is open to all amateur winemakers in Placer County at $10 per entry. A barbecue will follow. All events are open to the public; admission is $20 for PCWGA members or $25 for non-members and will include wine tasting. Don's Classic Car Show will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at the Loomis Depot. Admission is free. The show includes music and raffle prizes. The Five Cities Girls Fundraiser Golf Tournament on July 17 at Lincoln Hills Orchard Course will help raise funding for community restrooms at Loomis Park on the girls softball side (north) of King Road. There will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m. and the format will be a four-person scramble. Prizes will be given for both men and women longest drive and closest to pin. A barbecue and raffle will be held at Loomis Memorial Hall following the tournament. Entry is $100 per person or $500 per sponsor (includes 4 golfers and sign). For businesses without golfers, sponsorship of $100 and includes barbecue for two and sign. Barbecue tickets for non-golfers are $15; a hot dog or hamburger plate for children 12 and under is $5. Free Vacation Bible School is being offered from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, July 26 through 30, by Hope Lutheran Church, located at 7117 Hope Way in Penryn. "Circle J Ranch - J Stands for Jesus," will be a western dude ranch theme with each day focusing on a different part of the ranch and a corresponding Bible story.
