Things to do, places to go in Loomis and Penryn

Ventriloquists Roger and Aileen Carroll will perform at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 1, at the Loomis Library, as part of the “Make a Splash — Read” annual Placer County Library summer reading program. For more information, call the Loomis Library at 652-7061. The community pool at Del Oro High School is open for swimming and lessons. Temporary Jazz will perform at free outdoor concert, sponsored by the Town of Loomis, starting at 7 p.m. Friday, July 2, at the Loomis Depot. The Loomis Farmers’ Market is open from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday at the Blue Goose Fruit Shed. Those who have farm or homegrown fruits, vegetables, nuts, value-added products or handcrafted items can get information about a free vendor booth from Mark at Blue Goose Produce. Call 652-8341. A car wash to benefit the Auburn trap team, which includes boys from Penryn, will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at Taco Bell in the Raley’s Shopping Center. See the band Pablo Cruise live at the Blue Goose Fruit Shed Friday or Saturday, July 9 or 10. Doors open at 6 p.m.; the show is at 8 p.m. General admission tickets are $40 each, or $65 for a VIP ticket. Get tickets at the chamber office, U.S. Bank or Blue Goose Produce. A Home Winemakers Competition will be held by the Placer County Wine & Grape Association at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at Geiger Woods, 3690 Auburn-Folsom Road. The competition is open to all amateur winemakers in Placer County at $10 per entry. A barbecue will follow. All events are open to the public; admission is $20 for PCWGA members or $25 for non-members and will include wine tasting. Entry information and rules are available at www.pcwga.com. The Five Cities Girls Fundraiser Golf Tournament on July 17 at Lincoln Hills Orchard Course will help raise funds for community restrooms at Loomis Park on the girls softball side. There will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m. and the format will be a four-person scramble. Entry is $100 per person. A barbecue and raffle will be held at Loomis Memorial Hall following the tournament.
