A silent auction of vintage western paperback novels is being held by the Friends of the Penryn Library. Bidding ends at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 20. The books are on display at the Penryn Library. The second annual Artful Bra Show runs May 21 to 23 at the High-Hand Gallery. Proceeds from the auction of the one-of-a-kind designs will benefit the American Cancer Society. The weekend display of silent auction bids ends at noon Sunday. A Placer County Health and Safety Expo will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at Del Oro High School. The free event will feature demonstrations by K-9, SWAT and hostage negotiation teams. It will highlight how public safety organizations work together to improve the safety of the community. The 10th Annual Memorial Day celebration at Del Oro High School begins at 9 a.m. Monday, May 31, on the football field. The program will include the ceremonial raising and lowering of the flag, playing of taps, and the singing of the national anthem. Del Oro students will recite poems they’ve written, and Veterans and Boy Scouts will participate, and Del Oro students will recite poems they’ve written. Food and beverages will also be served. Community members are invited to participate in the event that honors all those who have served the United States. The season of free summer outdoor concerts, sponsored by the Town of Loomis, opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 4, at the Loomis Depot. The Station Pickers will perform bluegrass music on June 4. Coming up July 2 will be Temporary Jazz, presenting a variety of music styles, including classic rock, big band, bluegrass, Latin and jazz. The Aug. 6 concert will be a talent show. Reserved seating for Del Oro High School 2010 home football games is being offered to benefit the football program. Packages are $150 for the Golden Eagle Pass, which includes free reserved parking, and $100 for the Eagle Pass. A season ticket pass for all Del Oro athletic sports home games can be added for $50. Applications are due Sept. 3 and are available at the Del Oro front office. Summer basketball camps for boys and girls will be held at Del Oro High School Monday through Thursday, June 14 through 17. The fee is $80 per athlete. The girls camp is from 9 a.m. to noon grades 3 - 7, and from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. for grades 8 through 10; contact camp director Michael Takayama, Del Oro girls varsity coach, at 607-1497.
