Go the Distance is a 5K fun run/walk starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 22, at Franklin Elementary School. Entry is $15 for adults or $10 for kids. A chicken dinner will be served from 6:30 to 8 p.m.; tickets are $5 each. Proceeds will go toward efforts to help save the school’s health and fitness programs. Loomis Friends of the Library will hold a book sale April 23 and 24 in the Jessie Helms Room of the library. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The Loomis Basin Iris Tour and Festival takes place April 23 to 25. The Loomis Earth Day celebration begins at 7 p.m. Friday, April 23, at the Loomis Depot with the showing of several environmental films, suitable for the family. The Del Oro Athletics Department will benefit from the May Day Fun Run 4 mile run/walk and kid run/walk that starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 1, at the high school. The fee is $38 for adults and $20 for kids. Entry forms, due April 23, can be picked up at the school office. Registration will not be accepted at the race. An Iris Flower Show will be hosted by High-Hand Nursery, beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24. There is no entry fee to participate in the show, which will be judged by an American Iris Association apprentice judge. The Del Oro High School Inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony and reception will honor athletes, coaches, teams and community members of the 1960-70 classes. Festivities begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 25, in the high school’s Performing Arts Center, followed by a reception at the Blue Goose Fruit Shed. This is an opportunity for community members to give their opinions on park elements such as the skate plaza, amphitheater, water play and open space, as well as picnic, parking and restroom facilities. The annual Town of Loomis Spring Clean-up Day runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 8, in the upper parking lot, by the swimming pool, at Del Oro High School. Only Loomis residents are eligible; identification will be required. A backhoe will be available to lift heavy items, but residents must unload their own trash into the Dumpster. The Loomis Lions Club Golf Tournament, to benefit Boy Scout Troop 12, will be held Saturday, May 8, at the Lincoln Hills Golf Club. The entry fee is $100 per person or $550 for a sponsorship package.
