Meet the candidates at community forum A free community forum for Loomis Town Council candidates will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Blue Goose, 3550 Taylor Road. The forum, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Placer County, will include a question-and-answer period. There are three candidates vying for two seats — Rhonda Morillas, Tom Millward and Gary Liss — but only Liss may be able to attend. Stock up on reading material at book sale The Loomis Friends of the Library will host a used books ale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25. Find new gear at ski swap A Ski Swap is set for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, in the Del Oro High School cafeteria. New and used equipment will be available. Loomis Food Baskets benefits from photo opportunity Simply Portraits, now open at 3640 Taylor Road, at the corner of Horseshoe Bar Road, will offer Halloween portraits of children 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 25, 29, 30. In exchange for one can of food or $5 per child, she will provide a 4x6 color portrait with one of three Halloween settings available. Only one 4x6 per family allowed. Forum to discuss drug use in Placer County A community discussion on the effects of drug use in the Loomis area will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, in the Franklin Elementary School gymnasium. The purpose of the forum is to increase community awareness of substance abuse in Loomis and surrounding areas, identify how drug-related behaviors affect the individuals, family and community, and trends that parents should pay attention to. Del Oro turns into Neverland in theater presentation Del Oro High School presents “Peter Pan & Wendy” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13 to 15 and Nov. 20 and 21, with a 1 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Nov. 15. Lacrosse registration extended to Nov. 18 The Sierra Foothills lacrosse club holds pre-season practice from 9 to 11 a.m. every Saturday mornings through January at the LDS Recreational Park, 3211 Boulder Creek Place in Penryn (take the Penryn exit off I-80. Flower Farm hosts hay rides The Flower Farm Pumpkin Patch is offering hayrides from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays during October. Movie-themed pumpkin people venues will line the hayride route. The Flower Farm is located at 415o Auburn-Folsom Road in Loomis. Cowboy poetry tickets Tickets are now available for the 14th annual Cowpoke Fall Gathering of Cowboy Poetry and Music, which takes place Nov. 7 and 8 at the Blue Goose. Performers include award winner Yvonne Hollenbeck, Pat Richardson, J. Parson, Bill Brewster, Jeralynn Strong, Ernie Sites, John Martin and John Kintz. Saturday matinee tickets are $20 for adults or $10 for children under age 14. Friday and Saturday evening tickets are $35 general admission.
