Clark swinging big bat for Felician

Former Del Oro High softball standout Ciera Clark is once again swinging a big bat for the Felician College Golden Falcons.

Clark, just a sophomore, is second on the team in hitting average (.339) this season along with leading the team on base percentage (.403) and slugging percentage (.508). She also whacked three home runs so far this season.

A year ago Clark had a banner freshman season as she led the Golden Falcons in hitting with a .439 mark along with slugging 11 doubles and a team-leading seven home runs.

In a recent doubleheader sweep of Nyack College, Clark, who plays first base, went 5x6 with three runs scored and three runs batted in. She collected two doubles and a home run as Felician defeated Nyack, 10-4, and 9-1.

Felician, a NCAA Div. II school in Lyndhurst, N.J., competes in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. 

Bews Player of Week at Waldorf

Jake Bews hit the cover off the ball last week to be named the Waldorf College Player of the Week.

Bews, a senior, who graduated from Del Oro in 2008 and played two years at Sierra College, batted .438 in leading Waldorf to a 5-1 record last week.

In his six games, Bews hit three home runs and two doubles along with scoring eight runs. His slugging percentage in the six-game spree was .1125.

Waldorf College is a NAIA school located in Forest City, Iowa, that competes in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Simmons competing at BYU

Brie Simmons, a 2012 Del Oro High graduate, is competing on the women’s track team at Brigham Young University.

Simmons, a CIF state meet competitor last year, is competing in a multitude of events this season for the Cougars.

A freshman, Simmons has posted season best marks in the 100 meter hurdles (15.36), the high jump (4-9) and the long jump (17-7.25).

Euer, Sedeno Shine

A pair of Del Oro golfers took a break from league action last weekend and competed in the Greater Sacramento area’s First Tee tournament played Sunday at Morgan Creek.

Leading the way with his third straight win in the series was Louie Euer, a Del Oro sophomore. He was the overall winner with a 2 under par 70.

Josh Sedeno, a freshman on the Del Oro golf team, won the Boys 14-15 division with a score of 76.

Del Oro Black & Gold  Golf

The Del Oro Black and Gold Golf Classic is June 14 at Turkey Creek Golf Club, in Lincoln.

Cost per player is $110 which includes golf, dinner, range balls and tee prizes. Several other foursome and sponsor packages are available.
