Cinderella story: Placer High musical up for 14 Elly Awards

Del Oro, Bear River productions also on regional nomination list

Placer High School’s spring musical of “Into the Woods” is nominated for 14 Elly Awards. The awards will be handed out Sunday in Sacramento by the Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance and the Auburn high school’s musical is competing against other schools in the “education musical” category. The production is one of five nominees for overall production, competing against musicals at Ponderosa High School, El Dorado High School, Natomas Charter School and El Camino Fundamental High School. Elly nominees for their work on “Into the Woods” are: Jesse Larossa (costume design); Joshua Brown (direction); Connor Soejoto (leading actor) Chaileen Smith, Hannah Kile (leading actress); Thomas Garcia (lighting design); David Dwelle, Randy Nemeth (musical direction); Joshua Brown (set design) Barrett Steinle, Mason Taylor, Truman Conlee (supporting actor); Alaina Smith, Jessi Fry (supporting actress). Other nominees from area school plays included Gina Musilli and Jeff Johnson (set design) for Del Oro High School’s “Rumors,” Bear River High School’s Jacquelyn Fries (choreography, “Oklahoma”) and Amy Linden (direction, “Oklahoma”), also of Bear River. – Staff Report
