CIF Sac-Joaquin Div. II baseball playoff field set

The eight-team field has been set for the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Div. II baseball tournament that began last night at Sacramento City College with a pair of games. In yesterday’s opening contests, Rocklin, the Sierra Foothill League champion, took on Burbank and Ponderosa, the Sierra Valley first place team, met Rosemont. Today’s action matches McClatchy and Galt at 5 p.m. followed at 8 p.m. by Del Oro and Union Mine. The playoff format features first-round games yesterday and today that are basically loser-out elimination games. Following the first-round games, a best two-of-three series will begin on Monday, also at Sacramento City. The Del Oro-Union Mine winner will meet the McClatchy-Galt winner Monday at 8 p.m. Game Two of the series is then set for Thursday, May 22, at 5 p.m. with a Game Three if needed to follow one-half hour following the conclusion of Thursday’s first game. The lower bracket winner will then face the upper bracket (Rocklin, Burbank, Ponde-rosa, Rosemont) winner on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, at Sacramento City at 6 p.m. for the championship. CIF Div.
