Del Oro High senior Austin Branum toppled defending state champion Jake Elliott of Oakmont in the 152-pound championship to take top honors at the Tim Brown Memorial Tournament in Sacramento last Saturday. Branum edged Elliott 4-3 in the final at 152 pounds and was named the Outstanding Middleweight at the prestigious event, which features more than 90 teams and 800 wrestlers from around the region. It was Branum’s third title at the Tim Brown Memorial. Freshman Zach Ruybal wrestled to fourth place for Del Oro, which finished 10th as a team. In Sierra Foothill League action, Del Oro topped Roseville in a dual match on Wednesday, 58-15. Isaac Blackburn got the match going for Del Oro with a major decision in the 106-pound match. Brendan Montoya also picked up[ a win at 145 while Tanner Woods noteched a pin at 220 pounds. Jansen Englebrecht also posted a decision victory at 113 pounds while Ruybal added a pin triumph in the 120 pound weight class. Tanner Robison also picked up a victory at 126 pounds. Del Oro will host its 30th annual JV tournament this Saturday. The Golden Eagles then travel to Rocklin for a Sierra Foothill League dual match next Wednesday, Feb. 1.
