A utility worker discovered a man’s body in an Auburn canal Thursday. On Friday, Auburn Police Sgt. Dale Hutchins said that officers were investigating the death of a Hispanic male found at about 2 p.m. in the canal system near Merry Knoll and Mount Vernon roads in Auburn. Both the Auburn Police and Placer County Sheriff’s Office are looking for any witnesses or others who might have information relating to how the man ended up in the canal. Hutchins said the man is believed to be in his 40s with a heavy build and medium height. His identity was unknown to investigators as of Friday afternoon. Hutchins would only say that the investigation was ongoing. He would not comment as to whether or not foul play was involved at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call the Auburn Police investigations division at (530) 823-4237 ext. 238. ~ Jenifer Gee
