The Sierra Foothill League was once again home to the Sac-Joaquin Section’s dominant Division II girls tennis play in 2008, as league front-runners Granite Bay and Del Oro battled it out one more time for both the league and section titles. The league champion Lady Grizzlies won the section title before losing in their first-round match at the Northern California tournament. In that matchup with Saratoga, Granite Bay’s lone win came from SFL co-MVP Karolina Kecki. Granite Bay received strong performances all year from its freshman No. 1 singles player, Kecki, who exploded on the scene during the 2008 season. The young phenom shares the league MVP award with Del Oro senior Kelsey Becker. Three other Lady Grizzlies join Kecki as first team all-SFL selections, as named by the league’s coaches. No. 2 singles player Emily Kelsey and Erin Bell, Kelsey’s teammate on the Lady Grizzlies No. 1 doubles pairing, are joined by Madeline Cornell on the first team. Woodcreek’s Kristin Dees and Roseville’s Kristen Kilar-ski also received first-team recognition for their strong play this season.
