With the Bear River and Colfax high school volleyball teams both winning their opening-round Div. IV Sac-Joaquin Section playoff games Tuesday, the two local schools advance to play each other for a third time Thursday.
No. 10 Colfax downed host Golden Sierra, a No. 7 seed, in three, 25-16, 25-19. 25-21, while second-seeded Bear River swept Marysville, a 15th seed.
The Bruins, co-champions of the Pioneer Valley League, beat the Falcons twice already this season and will have home court advantage when they meet again Thursday at 7 p.m.
“It’s hard to beat a good team three times,” Colfax coach Vicky Satterlee said. “We’re going after them. We’re playing our best volleyball right now. It’s exciting.”
On Tuesday, Colfax was led by Maddi Ittner (18 kills and five aces), Sophie Satterlee (26 assists) and Stephanie Scott (four kills, three digs, two aces).
In a Div. II matchup Tuesday, No. 4 Del Oro defeated No. 13 Elk Grove, 25-23, 21-25, 25-15, 25-19. The Golden Eagles will host Benicia Thursday at 7 p.m.
Morgan Lees (19 kills, 19 digs), Amy Heyn (19 assists, 15 digs), Stephanie Solich (12 kills) and Summer Shell (18 digs) led the way for the victorious Golden Eagles.
“We played a little sloppy but they pulled it together and got the W,” coach Stu Kageta said. “That’s the most important thing.”
