Bear River, Del Oro cruise at league tournaments

ROSEVILLE — The Bear River High girls golf team clinched a second consecutive Pioneer Valley League title Monday, winning the second PVL tournament at Diamond Oaks Golf Course. The Bruins won with a team score of 499, in front of Whitney (516), El Dorado (528), Lincoln (559) and Placer (573). Bear River’s Ashlee Andrews shot a 91 to tie for medallist honors with El Dorado’s MacKenzie Weinhold. Lucy Corippo finished fourth overall with a 95 and Hannah Brown right behind her in fifth with a 99. Stephanie Wong finished with a 106 and Sierra Pruss a 108. Sydney Ryan shot a 104 to lead the Hillgals (1-7 PVL), followed by Taylor Evans (110), Karly Matson (121), Maddy Swendner (122) and Sky Connors (126). The Bruins, who went 8-0 in the PVL and won both tournaments, advance to next Monday’s divisional tournament at Lincoln Hills Golf Club. Action begins at 1 p.m. Sierra Foothill League Tournament #2 NICOLAUS — Cami Furgeson fired a 7-over-par 71 to lead Del Oro to victory at the second SFL tournament. The Golden Eagles compiled an impressive team score of 450 in moving onto next Monday’s divisional tournament. Younger sister Bailey Furgeson was right behind, finishing with a 79. Cherie Nixon shot a 96, Maddie Elder had a 97 and Olivia Nixon finished with a 100. Del Oro plays Loretto Wednesday at Hagan Oaks in a tuneup for the divisional tournament, held at Bing Maloney Golf Course in Sacramento.
