A woman bank robber and her male getaway driver only made it about 12 miles from the scene of the crime in Auburn before being arrested as they fled westbound on Interstate 80 Monday afternoon. And authorities are crediting some sharp-eyed witnesses in a busy shopping plaza for a quick arrest of the two suspects. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office reported that a female entered the Bank of the West at the Foresthill exit shortly before 2:30 p.m. and passed a note to a teller. The note demanded money and stated that the woman was armed, sheriff’s spokeswoman Dena Erwin said. The teller turned over an undisclosed amount of money and the robber left the bank, where she was picked up by the getaway driver. Witnesses in the Raley’s shopping center saw the woman run from the bank and get into a car that was parked behind the building, Erwin said. With a description of the vehicle and a possible license plate number from an observant witness, deputies were able to quickly stake out I-80 and spotted the suspect vehicle near Rocklin Road. The pair were stopped and arrested without incident, Erwin said. Both suspects were booked into the Placer County Jail on charges of bank robbery. Names of the suspects were unavailable at press time pending verification of the suspects’ true identities. – Journal staff report
