Area roundup: Lady Hillmen volleyball team remains perfect, gets victory at Woodcreek

Lauren Collins had 13 kills and Raquel Quirarte 12, as the Placer High School girls volleyball team remained unbeaten after a 25-17, 23-25, 25-11, 25-14 victory at Woodcreek on Thursday.

Coach Jennifer Wright once again gave everybody a chance to get playing time. She said in the second set her team “fell into a funk where we didn’t pass well.”
She found a positive, however, in not earning a sweep.

“It’s OK to lose one and learn a little bit,” she said. “It will make us stronger.”
Collins and Quirarte added two blocks and Kirstin Schauble recorded 32 assists for the Lady Hillmen, who improved to 3-0 and travel to Roseville Tuesday for a 6 p.m. showdown.

Del Oro 3, Colfax 0 — The Golden Eagles won 25-6, 25-18, 25-18 Thursday at Colfax and improved to 9-1 behind strong play from Morgan Lees (12 kills, 21 out of 22 on serves for 18 points and seven aces).

Alex Lolland added four kills, Summer Shell had 16 digs and Amy Heyn chipped in with 18 assists for Del Oro, which plays at a 24-team tournament Saturday at Oak Ridge starting at 8:30 a.m.


Del Oro JV 35, Placer 12 — The host Golden Eagles (1-1) handed the Hillmen (0-2) their second straight loss on Thursday.

Del Oro frosh 43, Placer 0 — The Golden Eagles (2-0) stormed out to a 36-0 lead at halftime and never trailed against the visiting Hillmen (1-1) Thursday.
