Area roundup: Forest Lake Christian boys beat Vacaville Christian

Brandon Camacho scored 18 points, Roman Makovey added 10 and the Forest Lake Christian boys beat Vacaville Christian 55-48 in a physical game to open the Vacaville Christian Tournament Thursday.

Tim Schneider had 10 points for the Falcons (10-3), who made 24 of 28 shots from the charity stripe. Forest Lake Christian was set to play Buckingham Charter today at 3 p.m. Results from that game are not available yet.

Girls basketball

Bear River 74, San Juan 26 — The Bear River Bruins left no doubt as to their ability and defended their spotless record with a win over San Juan. In the third period, the Bruins showcased their talent with a 22-4 run. The Bruins shot 11-13 from the floor while limiting San Juan to just 2-11. Bear River’s Cindy Solomon established herself in the opening period as a threat beyond the arc, connecting on four occasions and finishing with 13 total points. The Bruins’ Kaitlyn Reina outscored the entire San Juan Spartans on Thursday putting up 29 points in the lopsided victory.

Wrestling

Del Oro — The Golden Eagle boys are at the 81-team Sierra Nevada Classic. After Day 1 Thursday, they were in first place. Del Oro held on to the lead all day Thursday, but coach Dave Sanchez believes the competition is going to get tougher today. The team has three wrestlers in championships and three in consolations. “We hope to finish in the top 5,” Sanchez said.  Current results can be found at www.sierranevadaclassic.com.
