The First Tee of Greater Sacramento has selected three applicants from the Sacramento area this year to attend The First Tee Life Skills and Leadership Academy to be held July 28 to Aug. 4 at the University of Oregon, Eugene, Ore. Two of the selected junior golfers for this summer are from Del Oro High School. Austin Smotherman, a sophomore and Bailey Furgeson, a junior, have been named to participate in this year’s event. The academy will include up to 100 participants from First Tee chapters from all over the world. The participants will compete in golf, participate in life skills activities and career exploration, experience dorm living and meet a wide variety of young people from around the world. Smotherman and Furgeson were chosen to represent their chapter after being at least Birdie-Certified with The First Tee, letters of recommendation provided and submitting a written essay.
