The Superior Court of California, County of Placer is seeking applications from Placer County citizens interested in serving on the 2008-2009 grand jury. The grand jury's term is from July 1 through June 30, 2009. The grand jury is responsible for conducting independent and nonbiased investigations and making reports concerning all aspects of the operations of both city and county government. In addition, the grand jury may be called upon to hear evidence in selected criminal cases. Those who are concerned about the quality of government will find contributing one's time and talent to be both fulfilling and rewarding. In order to meet the minimum qualifications for service on the grand jury, applicants must be United States citizens who are 18 years of age or older, and have resided in Placer County for a minimum of one year immediately prior to becoming a grand juror. Service on the grand jury requires a substantial investment of time, usually 25-30 hours per month. There may be several grand jury meetings each week and, in addition, members of the grand jury routinely visit various public offices and officials in carrying out their responsibilities.
