The Assistance League of Greater Placer has begun its Annual Appeal 4 Kids in Need, to benefit its Operation School Bell program. Each year Operation School Bell provides ounty students in elementary school through high school with clothing and shoes. Working directly with schools, the program also provides school supplies, dictionaries, backpacks, personal grooming kits and tutoring. Last year, over 1,000 children were served through this program. The Assistance League Thrift Shop in Auburn provides 65 percent of the funds needed for the many programs they provide. Funding from grants, which has provided much of the additional money needed, has been reduced this year and there is a need for donations so that all the children referred by the schools can be provided with needed items. Last year, the non-profit organization served 6,065 Placer County children and adults who needed support. Assistance League of Greater Placer, with more than 200 volunteer members, is a chapter of National Assistance League.
